College Prep

This summer is going to be different. Not because I’ll have to get myself a job (which is true), or because I aspire to change my lifestyle habits (also true), but because this is my last full year at home for a long time. Maybe even the rest of my life.

This fall I start my first semester at D’Youville College, which is about an hour away from home. I knew that I didn’t want to stay at home after visiting just because it was so far away. I wouldn’t be able to take a work study, wouldn’t have the opportunity to make many new friends, and wouldn’t be able to participate as much with clubs or organizations. Sure, it’s pricey to stay on campus, but eventually I was going to have to leave anyway. At least this time I could do it with a ton of experiences. I have the opportunity to meet new people, make friends with roommates, and take part in clubs such as the pre-pharmacy club. I’m looking forward to that experience, but I’m a little afraid, too. Only time will tell as to how well I will do when left without a pre-established friend.

So, this summer will be spent preparing for college. I still have a lot to do, like finishing cleaning my room so that I can switch rooms with my mom and dad/sister (I have no idea who’s getting my room when I move out) and getting money together so that I can buy textbooks and do fun things with new friends. One of the big things I do is get a job. I’ve never formally worked a single day in my life, so that’ll probably be the first order of business. One of my friend’s siblings works for a company who needs a line editor for book reviews, and I applied for the position. That doesn’t necessarily mean that I’m going to get it, especially because I have no experience whatsoever in the editing process aside from peer edits made to papers and short stories. After that it’s just college prep, college prep, sleeping in a little, and more college prep.
